Fluid Stone Studio handcrafted these polished concrete worktops for a residential period property in Birmingham. A plum pigment was used to give a slight warmth to the grey toned Portland mix. A large 400mm cantilever at one end of the island unit serves as a useful breakfast bar for lazy mornings. The client chose a steel backsplash which was polished to a mirror finish. This adds a great sense of space to the kitchen.

This project was over a year old when photographed. If you look closely you can see some nice ageing patina forming on areas of high wear.

All of our concrete projects come sealed with our densifying hardener. This not only allows the concrete to breathe, but also gives a lovely resistant sheen to the surface. Even after years of heavy use the concrete will still have a radiant glow with a nice warm and worn undertone.
