CUSTOM CONCRETE COUNTERTOPS
OLD SPITALFIELDS MARKET
London
Our custom concrete worktops were a key feature in the renovation of the food stalls at Old Spitalfields Market, Spitalfields, London. Completed in 2017, the revamp was orchestrated by Fosters and Partners architects in collaboration with WFC Contractors. The project’s goal was to elevate the market’s quality and affirm its distinctive character as one of London’s most dynamic and historic markets.
Crafted from our proprietary concrete blend in a bespoke zinc grey shade, the worktops were installed in ten catering units situated within a central steel-framed structure known as ‘The Kitchens’. These fully-equipped kitchens serve as a stage for showcasing the innovative and acclaimed street food from some of London’s top-rated vendors, making it the quintessential destination for food enthusiasts.
East London is renowned for its vibrant community of artists and creatives. Old Spitalfields Market unites small local enterprises and creatives with established brands, all under the roof of a Victorian-era market.
The market’s history stretches back over 350 years, with King Charles I granting a license in 1638 for the sale of poultry and produce when the area was still rural. Over time, it flourished, initially growing as a wholesale market before separating in the late 20th century as both the city and the market’s renown expanded. Today, it stands as one of London’s most energetic and colorful locales.
